The Minority Teacher Education Scholarship (MTES) is offered to more than 40 institutions throughout the state of Florida. All of these institutions have State-Approved Educator Preparation Programs. Only institutions with state-approved programs can participate with the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers, Inc. For a complete list of state-approved programs, please visit the Florida Department of Education.
An applicant must complete the online application, submit an essay with the application and send official transcripts to the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers. An application is only complete if all 3 items have been received. If an applicant is approved, the student will receive an electronic notification from FFMT along with a promissory note that must be completed within 30 days of notification. Failure to complete the note is considered a rejection of the award and that student must reapply.
By completing the promissory note, a student is agreeing that he/she will:
If a student does not maintain academic eligibility or does not attend the mandatory symposium, the student will become ineligible to receive aid from FFMT. If a student does not teach, he/she will be required to repay the funds received to FFMT at a rate of 8% annually. Failure to repay the funds will result in the student's name being submitted to a collections agency.
